Nicola Colantoni was born in Isnello, Italy, on December 18, 1892. On August 15, 1912, he arrived in the United States; his final destination was Schenectady. Before entering the military, he worked as a painter for General Electric.
On May 11, 1918, Nicola enlisted in the United States Army. He was a private serving with Company D, 128th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. On July 30, 1918, he was sent overseas aboard the U.S. Army troopship Mauretania. Nicola died from wounds received during battle on November 24, 1918. He is buried in the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
