Lynn Riggs MacIntyre was born in New York State on December 7, 1897. His mother was born in Schenectady but moved away after marrying. When her husband, James, died in 1909, she returned to Schenectady with Lynn, and he attended local public schools. Before entering the military, he was a student at Mount Hermon Preparatory School in Boston.
Lynn enlisted in the United States Army but was honorably discharged because his eyes were injured by the explosion of a gun. He afterwards joined the Canadian military and served as a private with the 3rd Battalion, Canadian Infantry. Lynn was killed in combat in France on August 30, 1918. He is buried in the Valley Cemetery in France.
