Frederick Paul Lockwenz was born in Schenectady, New York, on August 20, 1925. He grew up in the city of Schenectady and attended Mont Pleasant High School and Vocational High School, where he studied aviation mechanics. Before entering the military, he worked for the Army Service Forces Depot.
On April 6, 1943, Frederick enlisted in the United States Navy. He was a seaman second class stationed aboard the USS Independence. During the Battle of Tarawa on November 20, 1943, Frederick was wounded and died on November 23, 1943. He is buried in the Evergreen Memorial Park in Colonie, New York.
