Ambrose Edmund Patnode, the son of Edmund and Minnie (Silver) Patnode, was born on May 23, 1896, in Churubusco, New York. By 1915, he was a resident of Schenectady. He was an employee of General Electric.

On May 1, 1917, Ambrose enlisted in the United States Army. He held the rank of Corporal and was part of Company F, 105th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division. Ambrose went overseas on May 17, 1918, aboard the USS President Grant. On September 30, 1918, he died from wounds sustained during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. He is buried in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Schenectady, New York.
