Sherwood Eddy Bulnes Jr. was born in Schenectady, New York, on March 11, 1920. He grew up in the city of Schenectady, and after graduating from Mont Pleasant High School in 1937, he attended Upsala College in East Orange, New Jersey.
In February 1941, Sherwood enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was a corporal serving with Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Division, FMF. On August 9, 1944, Sherwood was killed in combat during the Battle of Guam. He is buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Hawaii.
