William Farrell O'Connor, the son of Martin and Catherine (Farrell) O'Connor, was born on October 19, 1895, in West Point, Orange County, New York. After 1915, William was living in Schenectady and studying mechanical drafting at the General Electric.

On June 16, 1916, William enlisted in the United States Army. He held the rank of Second Lieutenant and served with the Machine Gun Company, 105th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division. On October 17, 1918, William was killed in action during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. He is buried in the United States Military Academy Post Cemetery, West Point, Orange County.
