Edward Anthony Patka, the son of Stephen and Sidonia Patka, was born on May 14, 1919, in Schenectady, New York. He worked for General Electric and graduated from Mont Pleasant High School.

On April 25, 1941, Edward enlisted in the United States Army. He held the rank of Private and served with Battery F, 187th Field Artillery. On November 29, 1941, Edward was unintentionally shot with a .45 caliber revolver while on army maneuvers in North Carolina. He is buried in Sts. Cyril and Method Cemetery, Rotterdam, New York.
