Henry R. Krzyzak was born in Schenectady, New York, on November 15, 1916. He grew up in the city of Schenectady, attended Oneida Junior High School, and played amateur baseball for the city alongside his twin brother, Theodore. Before joining the military, he worked for the American Locomotive Company.
On April 16, 1942, Henry enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He was a staff sergeant serving with the 532nd Bomber Squadron, 381st Bomber Group, Heavy. On February 22, 1944, while on a mission to Oscherleben, Germany, his B-17 was shot down by German aircraft and crashed near Bielefeld, Germany. Six crew members were killed. Henry is buried at the Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial in the Netherlands.
