World War II (1939-1945)

Joseph A. Battaglia was born in Cook County, Illinois, on August 3, 1924. He moved to Schenectady, New York, when he was a young boy and lived on Cutler Street. He attended Washington Irving Junior High School and Vocational High School.

In November 1942, Joseph enlisted in the United States Army. He completed his basic training at Fort Eustis in Virginia. He was a private serving with the 80th Anti-aircraft Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division. On January 7, 1945, Joseph died from wounds received during the Battle of the Bulge. He is buried in the Henri Chapelle American Cemetery and Memorial in Belgium.
