Arthur Van Voorhis Crego was born in Claverack, New York, on May 13, 1893. His new job at General Electric relocated him to the city of Schenectady. He became a member of the Schenectady Boat Club, where he distinguished himself as an accomplished swimmer and paddler.
On February 22, 1916, Arthur enlisted in the United States Army. He was a corporal serving with Company C, 102nd Field Battalion, 27th Infantry Division. On October 17, 1918, while fighting in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, Arthur was killed in Battle. He is buried in the Claverack Dutch Reformed Church Cemetery in Claverack, New York.
