World War II (1939-1945)

Walter R. Marchewka was born in Schenectady, New York, on September 1, 1921. He grew up in the city of Schenectady and attended Vocational High School before enlisting in the military.

On January 16, 1940, Walter enlisted in the United States Army. He was a private first class serving with Company H, 105th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division. Walter was stationed at Fort McClellan in Alabama before being transferred to Hawaii in February 1942. After serving in Hawaii, he was sent to fight in the Battle of Saipan, and on July 7, 1944, he went missing. He is remembered at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Rotterdam, New York.
