World War II (1939-1945)

Steve Stanislaus Czyzewski was born in Schenectady, New York, on January 12, 1912. He grew up on Elizabeth Street in the town of Rotterdam in Schenectady County and graduated from the John Bigsbee School. Before entering the military, he was a foreman and founding member of Edgewood Hose Co. 2, as well as an employee of the US Warehouse General Depot. 

On January 7, 1941, Steve enlisted in the United States Army. He was a corporal serving with the 331st Infantry Regiment, 83rd Infantry Division. Steve was killed in battle on July 25, 1944, in Colleville-sur-Mer, France. He is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in France.
