Philip Nelson Bush was born in Roxbury, Massachusetts, on December 21, 1894. Before moving to Schenectady County, New York, in 1915 to work for General Electric, he had attended the University of Pennsylvania. During World War I, Philip served in the French Aviation Corps.
On February 25, 1942, Philip was recalled to duty by the United States Army Air Corps. He was a lieutenant colonel serving with the 9th Air Force. Philip died while stationed at Bolling Field in Washington, D.C., on October 28, 1942; his death was ruled accidental. He is buried in the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
