Louis J. Leva was born in Schenectady, New York, on June 26, 1920. He grew up in the city of Schenectady and graduated from Nott Terrace High School, where he was a standout cross-country runner, and the Schenectady Gazette named him the New Distance Sensation. Before enlisting in the military, he worked for General Electric.
On May 4, 1942, Louis enlisted in the United States Army. He was a corporal serving with Company M, 115th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division. Louis died on August 3, 1944 in France from wounds he sustained during combat. He is buried in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Schenectady, New York.
