World War II (1939-1945)

Leon Gilbert Dibble Jr. was born in Schenectady, New York, on November 11, 1920. He grew up in the city of Schenectady and graduated from Nott Terrace High School in 1939. After graduating from high school, he was a student at Syracuse University.

In June 1942, Leon enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He was a first lieutenant serving with the 492nd Bomb Group, Heavy Bombardment. On April 7, 1945, Leon was killed on a special liberator mission over Norway. He is buried in Memory Gardens Cemetery and Memorial Park in Colonie, New York.
