John Adam Bartkowski was born in Schenectady, New York, on February 23, 1912. He grew up in the city of Schenectady and started working for General Electric after graduating from Oneida Junior High School.
On June 13, 1942, John enlisted in the United States Army. He was a private serving with the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. On the African Front, he was killed in action on April 30, 1943. John is buried in the North Africa American Cemetery and Memorial in Tunisia, North Africa.
