World War II (1939-1945)

Frank D. Dumary Jr. was born in Athens, New York, on September 20, 1921. He grew up in Athens in Greene County and graduated from Athens High School. He was living in Schenectady after 1940 and was a machinist for the American Locomotive Company. 

On October 23, 1942, Frank enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He completed his basic training at Parris Island in South Carolina. He was a master sergeant who served as a bombardier navigator. On February 12, 1945, Frank went missing in action near the Bonin Islands, Japan. His headstone and some military records state that he went missing on February 12, but others indicate February 13. He is remembered at the Honolulu Memorial, Courts of the Missing in Hawaii.
