Thomas McPadden, the son of Patrick and Bridget (Harrison) McPadden, was born on August 16, 1903, in Ireland.  He was on board the ship Cameronia when it arrived in the United States on March 23, 1925. Prior to joining the military, Thomas worked for the General Electric Company's transportation division.

In September 1942, Thomas enlisted in the United Navy and underwent training in Newport, Oregon, and Norfolk, Virginia. He was assigned to the USS Murphy and was a Seaman First Class. On October 21, 1943, an accident destroyed the USS Murphy, and Thomas was lost at sea. He is remembered at the East Coast Memorial, Battery Park, New York.
