John Delekta was born in Russia on November 17, 1895. He came to the United States in 1908, and before joining the military, he worked for the American Locomotive Company.
On June 21, 1917, John enlisted in the United States Army. He was a private serving with Company F of the 105th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division. On May 17, 1918, he was sent overseas aboard the U.S. Army troopship USS President Grant. On September 30, 1918, John died of wounds sustained during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. He is buried in the Somme American Cemetery and Memorial in France.
